Adventure Hook

The adventurers are in the city of Neverwinter when their dwarf patron and friend, Gundren Rockseeker, hires them to escort a wagon to Phandalin. Gundren has gone ahead with a warrior, Sildar Hallwinter, to attend to business in the town while the adventurers follow with the supplies. Each adventurer will be paid 10gp by the owner of Barthen’s Provisions in Phandalin when they delier the wagon safely to that trading post.
[It is presumed that the adventurers already have known each other, as an expedient approach to progressing the adventure hook]

Story Synopsis/Snippets

Part 1: Goblin Arrows

Goblin Ambush

The adventurers journey takes them south along the High Road to the Triboar Trail, which heads eastward. Half-a-days march to Phandalin coming around a bend, the adventurers spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feed ahead, blocking their path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. Closer inspection reveals that the saddlebags have been looted of its contents, including what was inside a leather map case found close by.

Four goblins surprise the party while inspecting the dead mounts, with two of the assailants rushing forward to engage in melee armed with scimitars, while two goblin archers stand some 30-feet away attacking with their shortbow.

The adventurers make short of the goblin band, with the last of the goblins attempting to flee heading for the goblin trail upon the fall of it’s members.

Goblin Trail

After defeating the goblin ambush, inspection of the area reveals that the creatures have been using this place to stage ambushes for some time.
By chance and hint from the fleeing goblin, the adventurers discover a trail hidden behind thickets on the north side of the road leading northwest, recognizing that about a dozen goblinoid have come and gone along this trail, as well as signs of human-sized bodies being hauled away from the ambush site.

The adventurers tie off the oxen to pursue the trail, leading five miles northwest and ends to a cave mouth.

In about 10 minutes along the trail, before reaching the cave, the party (more specifically the dwarf-wizard) experiences the “delight” of being hung upside down 10-feet above the ground by triggering a hidden snare. Now wary of traps, the adventurers managed to avoid falling into a camouflaged pit.

Story Milestone Award

Defeating the goblin ambushers (and later finding the Cragmaw hideout) earns the adventurers 75 XP each.

Cragmaw Hideout

Following the goblins’ trail some five miles from the ambush site, leads to a large cave opening in a hillside, with a shallow stream flowing out and screened by dense briar thickets.

A confused skirmish ensues between the party, two goblin guards and two other explorers (a druid and a ___ ).
